The Deluminators, the Sydney, Australia Chapter, was founded by Sean Landiss, with the support of his two sisters, Zoe and Sasha. Sean was amazed by the work done by the HPA and was excited to join up, but to his dismay found there was no Sydney Chapter! So, at the start of 2014, he created the Deluminators, and it's been such an amazing journey since.
As with the function of Dumbledore's invention, 'the Deluminator', we aim to draw in all the light in our own lives in order to give it to areas and people not so fortunate, turning on the lights in others lives in the name of Dumbledore and the world JK Rowling created. We have over 50 members, who all participate when they can. Our campaigns are drawn from the hearts and minds of our members, such asan Accio Books drive where we collected 9, 512 books for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy foundation and Sydney Footpath Library, a Yule Ball where we raised awareness and $12,000 for a new women's shelter in our local area, and a Packages4Homeless drive, where we collected and distributed 150 backpacks full of necessities to people on the streets of Sydney.
There have been so many inspirational activities that our members have come up with! We've had lots of wonderful support from our community, and made so many connections with different people and groups along our journey. We always welcome new members and new ideas, and have recently passed over to a new leadership team, so we're very excited for our chapter's future.
The Deluminators are very active on social media, and plan to do even more online campaigns in the coming years, so our online profiles are the places to watch. We have a public Facebook page, a Twitter account, an Instagram, a blog where all our campaign stories are told, an etsy where we sell harry potter inspired handmade items to help fund our campaigns and give the public an easy way to support our organisation, and much more!
