Heads of House

Paul DeGeorge

Paul DeGeorge started the band Harry and the Potters back in 2002 with his younger brother Joe. Since then, they have played nearly 500 shows in 49 different states and in many, many different libraries. A 3-year old once said "They are better than the Rolling Stones, but not quiet as good as the Beatles." In 2005, he helped co-found the Harry Potter Alliance with Andrew Slack. He also runs the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club which has released 24 different wizard rock CDs and raised over $29,000 for different charities.

Greetings to all those who serve the Harry Potter Alliance under the banners of scarlet and gold. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the great and noble House of Gryffindor! As Gryffindors, it is our charge to act as leaders, to take the initiative, and show the rest of the Alliance the full measure of human generosity. For our First Annual Book Drive, I hope that you'll take a close look at your bookshelves and find something that you are eager to share with someone less fortunate than you. As Harry Potter fans, we all know and understand the power of books - whether they be storybooks or magic books or both - and as Gryffindors, we should be eager to share that power with others. You have your mission. Go forth and make our house proud!

Evanna Lynch

Evanna was born in 1991 to two Irish teachers and so, naturally, grew up with a great love of literature. This passion reached a new level, when at eight years of age the local library failed to provide the latest Tintin installment and Evanna was forced to explore the world of an unimpressive looking bespectacled 'wizard'. Since then her love of literatue has branched out into an independent adoration for Harry Potter and the proudest moment to date of her Potterfan life was beating out all classmates in third class in the ultimate Harry Potter fan quiz when she confidently informed the teacher that Ollivanders was founded in 382 BC. Evanna became part of the Harry Potter movie franchise in 2006 when she took on the role of Luna Lovegood. She still considers herself more a Harry Potter fan than an actress and considers it the highest honour to be able to fill the shoes of her favourite character on the screen. Evanna attends school in Ireland and tries hard to balance her studies with her Potter life. She also enjoys dancing, yoga, acting, going to the theatre and cinema and spending time with close friends. Her other favourite authors are Amelie Nothomb, Shakespeare, Jeffrey Eugenides and Jerry Spinelli, though she has not read nearly enough to finalise these. She has read enough however to confidently say that J.K.Rowling is Queen.

Ready Steady Ravenclaws! It is with great pride and sheer delight that I embrace you as a member of the brighest and brainiest house and invite you to help us on the quest of Accio Books! as a true Ravenclaw. I say this with complete confidence and apt smugness, as I feel sure that we Ravenclaws, outstanding in our wit, intelligence and creativity understand and empathise with the need for books and the transformative power they can have on our lives. We are the writers, poets, quibbler reporters of today. We inspire and ignite the world through our craftmanship of the written word. For this is both a gift and a craft, and we as Ravenclaws know that brains need to be trained and wits sharpened. Literature depends on the people of OUR house to carry it forward, enhancing and extracting from it where necessary to enrich the literary output of the next generation. As E.M.Forster words it : 'What is wonderful about great literature is that it transforms the man who reads it towards the condition of the man who wrote.' Think, for a minute, how different a person you would be had you not laid eyes on a Harry Potter book. Then think, how different a person you would be had you not laid your hands on a book. Unimaginable. Ravenclaws, let us share our love of literature, inspire those who long to be inspired and unlock the boundless world of imagination to those who wish to explore where we still love to venture...Reading is the future of Ravenclaw. Let's make it theirs too!

Hail, fellow members of the mighty House of Hufflepuff! Hard work and loyalty are a hallmark of our fair house, this is true. What is also true is our sense of fair play, inclusion of others, and the willingness and patience to take on things perhaps others may not be so anxious to do. As such, to meet the goal of sharing the magic of reading to Wizards and Muggles alike ;) it will take the true hard work, dedication and great effort that is legend of our House of Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs provide the rock foundation of the houses of Hogwarts, the task before us with the book drive is no different. There is strength in numbers it is said and the same can hold true for the books that we Hufflepuffs can and will surely bring to this drive. Along with the other houses, we can work as one to help those in need, so they too can enjoy the same kind of literary magic that we all know and love.

Brian Ross

Brian is one half of Draco And The Malfoys.  He is a Slytherin. Those who say otherwise wish he were in their house.  He has been working with the HPA since 2005 because it is advisable to appear to support social causes for the benefit of one's standing in the community (not to menton the tax benefit).

Like you, I have trouble seeing what difference it should make to me why one should give up what it is rightfully (or unrightfully) theirs.  However, there is a contest to win here, and we can't let any of those inferior houses defeat us!

Matt Maggiacomo

Matt Maggiacomo - head of chapter house Matt Maggiacomo is the singer/songwriter behind The Whomping Willows, and also serves on the Harry Potter Alliance Board of Directors. Matt is a native of Rhode Island and has been writing music for 15 years. He fell in love with the Harry Potter series in 2000, but he wasn't introduced to the Harry Potter fandom until May 2007, when The Whomping Willows were invited to play at the Phoenix Rising conference in New Orleans. After realizing that Harry Potter fans are the nicest, most charitable and loving people on earth, Matt has devoted his life to everything Harry Potter, particularly the wizard rock community and the Harry Potter Alliance.

Hello HPA Chapters!
It's no secret that you all do incredible work in your communities. The list of accomplishments from HPA chapters is long and inspiring, and most of all, indicative of your exceptional character and enthusiasm for helping other people. For the first time, we're encouraging chapters to compete against each other; never before have such worthy and formidable competitors been pitted against one another! Of course, this isn't about competition, it's about donating books to people who need them. I am certain that our combined effort will result in a huge donation! Let's all get psyched and help bring the gift of literature to everyone!
